Kakadu 4WD Safari - 2 Days

Darwin and the Top End

Overview

Discover the wonders of Kakadu in this 2 day 4WD safari.

DAY 1 - Your 2 day trip starts when we collect you from your Darwin accommodation at 7.30am.

Our first stop today is Fog Dam Conservation Reserve. A great variety of fauna can be found here throughout the year. We then we make our way into the heritage listed Kakadu National Park. This is the largest national park in Australia, has some of the world's finest rock art and a variety of habitats, including floodplains and savannah woodlands.

Whilst in the National Park, we explore Ubirr, where we walk through galleries of ancient aboriginal rock art, which your guide will interpret. Your guide will also teach you about bushtuckers and bush medicines. Once at the top of the plateau, relax and take in the spectacular view over the floodplains.

We will then visit the Bowali Visitors Information Centre, before heading to the centre of the park and to the Warradjan Aboriginal Cultural Centre. Late this afternoon, we board a sunset billabong cruise. Keep an eye out for the numerous varieties of birdlife, large variety of plants and perhaps even an estuarine crocodile.

We will stay over night in Lakeview Park in comfortable bush bungalows.

DAY 2 - After breakfast we visit Nourlangie Rock, an ancient Aboriginal living shelter, where we will explore the area and the rock art. Your guide will lead you on an interpretive walk around the site, followed by Anbangbang billabong and Nawalandja lookout. The short hike to Nawalandja lookout is rewarded by a magnificent view over the Arnhemland escarpment.

After lunch, we travel onto Maguk (Barramundi Gorge) for a walk through the paperbarks to reach the gorge. After a refreshing swim in the plungepool, we begin our journey back to Darwin, on the old Jim Jim road (unsealed). We'll cross the South Alligator River, stopping to look at Black Jungle Springs (wetlands).

We'll be back in Darwin approximately 6pm and you will be dropped off at your accommodation.
